Gruner + Jahr Establishes Editorial G+J Televisa Joint Venture for the Latin American Market
Hamburg, March 14, 2007
Gruner + Jahr continues its international
expansionist course by entering a joint venture with the Mexican
magazine publisher Editorial Televisa, with effect from April 1, 2007.
Editorial Televisa has already been publishing the Mexican editions of
the popular-science magazine MUY INTERESANTE and the parenting magazine
SER PADRES since 1986 under license. Editorial Televisa is part of Grupo
Televisa, the largest media group in the Spanish-speaking countries.
Beyond the magazine business, it also operates satellite services, TV
channels and online portals.
G+J´s new partnership not only opens up Latin America´s biggest media
market - Mexico - but also gives the publisher an important foothold in
South America. Apart from its headquarters in Mexico City, from where it
services the entire Central American market, Editorial Televisa also has
an office in Colombia, which is in charge of producing magazines for
Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.
The joint venture´s portfolio will initially compass the magazines
MUY INTERESANTE and SER PADRES, other magazine launches are planned.
Dr. Torsten-Jörn Klein, G+J Executive Board Member and President
G+J International, commented: "The joint venture with Televisa puts
us in an excellent starting position for developing business in the
Latin American region, with its more than 300 million Spanish-speaking
people. Together we intend to jointly launch new projects and thereby
grow substantially."
The management of the Editorial G+J Televisa joint venture, which is
based in Mexico City, is supervised by a board of four, on which G+J
will be represented by Markus Kley, Managing Director of G+J Spain,
and his predecessor Dr. Carsten Moser.
