Stephan Schäfer becomes New CEO of Gruner + Jahr - Julia Jäkel Leaves the Publishing House cordially

Hamburg, March 31, 2021
The 46-year-old journalist Stephan Schäfer will become the new CEO of Gruner + Jahr. He will be succeeding Julia Jäkel as from April 1, who, after 10 years in the lead, is leaving the Hamburg publishing house at her own request and amicably. Oliver Radtke will complete the Gruner + Jahr management team alongside Schäfer as COO. Both have been members of the Management Board since 2013. Schäfer will also continue as Managing Director Content & Brands of the Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland.

Tech Company AppLike raises 8 digit investment from German Media Company Gruner + Jahr / AppLike Group is formed

Gruner + Jahr is expanding into the strategic growth market mobile and will invest 8 digit in the AppLike Group in the coming years. The group has grown out of the successful app marketing platform AppLike, which was founded in 2015 under the Gruner + Jahr umbrella and has become a Top 10 marketing channel for mobile apps in the AppsFlyer Performance Index for the past three years. Effective immediately, the group comprises three companies: adjoe, justDice, and Sunday. The AppLike Group will support its subsidiaries by providing state-of-the-art technologies, mobile apps expertise and their ad sales power in the app market.

An office building focused on lasting elegance: London-based firm Caruso St John designs winning architectural scheme for new HafenCity headquarters of Gruner + Jahr

London architects Caruso St John have won the competition to construct the new Gruner + Jahr publishing house headquarters on Am Lohsepark, HafenCity. The panel, made up of representatives from the city, architects, investor Warburg-HIH Invest Real Estate, project developer HIH Real Estate and Gruner + Jahr, voted unanimously for the design, which features striking green-enameled ceramic struts and three partially covered interior courtyards.

Photographer Minzayar Oo, working on assignment for GEO magazine, detained in Bangladesh

Burmese photojournalist Minzayar Oo and his assistant Hkun Lat have being held by the Bangladeshi authorities since September, 7th. Minzayar Oo is a member of the British photo agency Panos Pictures and was assigned by German GEO magazine to cover the Rohingya crisis in the Bangladeshi town of Cox's Bazar, where many Rohingyas have arrived to seek protection from the atrocities they have suffered in Myanmar.

The future head offices of Gruner + Jahr are to be located in Lohsepark, near the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg's HafenCity. Gruner + Jahr is having a new building erected for the publishing house there and is planning to move there in 2021. The address will then be "Am Hannoverschen Bahnhof".
