G+J Netherlands: QUEST Magazine Pronounced ´Launch of the Year´

The G+J magazine QUEST was pronouncedthe "Launch of the Year 2004" in the Netherlands. A panel of 15judges furnished by the Dutch magazine association NUV selectedQUEST as the No.1 among 52 new titles, preferring it to rivalsincluding Hearst´s "Cosmo Girl" or Linda de Mol´s "Linda." On behalfof her 13-person editorial team, QUEST´s editor-in-chiefKarlijn van Overbeek accepted the Mercury figurine at a galaevent in Aalsmeer.

Gruner + Jahr brings innovation to the Spanish magazine market by launching LIVING AT HOME. Modeled on the highly successful German edition, the title will make its debut on May 28 as a lifestyle magazine and perfect companion on all "home"-related topics and creative ideas. The new magazine draw on content from its German sister edition while also producing its own photo spreads and articles. LIVING AT HOME is a concept entirely new to Spain, making it unique in the Spanish magazine market. LIVING AT HOME "Living at Home" will initially be tested on newsstands in a print run of 100,000 copies, with two issues scheduled for this year. NEWS – Leben will be published four times a year starting May 28, and will cover health- and wellness-related topics on an estimated 120 pages. G+J Austria: NEWS Publishing Group Launches Magazine For Young Women

Gruner + Jahr continues to expand its international portfolio, this time in Austria. The local NEWS publishing group is launching a new magazine for young women between the ages of 15 and 25. YOUNGSTYLE will make its debut on Austrian newsstands on May 7 and is specifically designed to cater to this target audience. The magazine will initially be published twice a year; its seven sections will present reports and interviews on topics including trends, fashion, beauty and love. YOUNGSTYLE has a handy pocket format and offers 148 pages at a cover price of €1.50. Its initial print run will be 90,000 copies. The first issue, with 50 pages of ads, shows that the new title is very well received by advertisers.

Gruner + Jahr continues its innovation campaign in France. In the wake of the exceedingly successful launch of the innovative TV guide T;Eacute;L;Eacute; 2 SEMAINES, TV GRANDES CHA;Icirc;NES will hit French newsstands on April 5 as part of a nationwide test. Prisma Presse has managed to come up with a completely new type of magazine. Again unlike other TV guides previously available in France, TV GRANDES CHA;Icirc;NES focuses exclusively on the programming of France´s six "terrestrial" (receivable via antenna) TV channels. 70 percent of French households receive only these six channels. The six terrestrial TV channels command a roughly 90-percent share of total TV time among French audiences.

After High Profits in 2003, Gruner + Jahr Pursues Course of Expansion

In a continuingly difficult global marketenvironment, Europe´s biggest magazine publisher Gruner + Jahr in 2003again earned very good money and is well equipped for further growth.EBITA was improved to ;euro; 238 million (previous year: ;euro; 234 million) primarilydue to a strengthened core business and continuing strict cost discipline.Return on Sales rose to 9.6 percent (previous year: 8.3 percent). Beforepublishing investments, i.e. not including development costs and start-uplosses for new magazine titles, ROS amounted to 12.1 percent. Due to specialitems such as disposals and currency, income from external sales effects fellto ;euro; 2.48 billion (previous year: ;euro; 2.8 billion); adjusted for these specialitems, revenues remained stable.
