Gruner + Jahr is expanding into the strategic growth market mobile and will invest 8 digit in the AppLike Group in the coming years. The group has grown out of the successful app marketing platform AppLike, which was founded in 2015 under the Gruner + Jahr umbrella and has become a Top 10 marketing channel for mobile apps in the AppsFlyer Performance Index for the past three years. Effective immediately, the group comprises three companies: adjoe, justDice, and Sunday. The AppLike Group will support its subsidiaries by providing state-of-the-art technologies, mobile apps expertise and their ad sales power in the app market.

SPIEGEL MEDIA, the SPIEGEL Group's advertising sales house, is joining Gruner + Jahr and Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland as a new partner in their Ad Alliance, the advertising sales alliance established a year ago. As a result, the media brands DER SPIEGEL, SPIEGEL ONLINE, manager magazin and Harvard Business Manager will become part of Ad Alliance's quality portfolio. Together with RTL, VOX and n-tv, STERN, BRIGITTE, GALA and their respective digital offerings, the advertising sales houses of the Ad Alliance reach 99 per cent of the German population every month.

Top management change at the Motor Presse Stuttgart (MPS): After more than five years as the company’s CEO, Dr. Volker Breid has decided to leave MPS for family reasons and to pursue a new professional challenge. MPS shareholders Gruner + Jahr and the founding families Pietsch and Dietrich-Troeltsch have appointed Nils Oberschelp, to date CEO of the media brand distribution specialist DPV Deutscher Pressevertrieb, as his successor.

Especially given declining market developments in the print business, sustainable savings of 75 million Euro are to be achieved over the next three years. This goal is the result of an analysis that began with the strategic realignment of Gruner + Jahr into a House of Content twelve months ago, and that reflects the changed market environment.

The fiscal year 2013 at Gruner + Jahr was characterized by personnel, organizational and strategic realignment. The former printing and publishing house transforms itself into a creative house of content that stands for high quality print and digital formats. In fiscal 2013 Gruner + Jahr recorded a decline in revenue as well as operating result remaining below the level of the previous year. Adjusted revenues were € 2.07 billion (2012: € 2.22 billion), operating EBITDA was € 193 million (2012: € 213 million). The EBITDA margin was 9.3 percent after 9.6 percent in the prior year. Operating EBIT fell to € 146 million (2012: € 168 million).

The former G+J Deutschland publishing groups G+J AGENDA and G+J LIFE will no longer exist. The G+J brands will be organised into eight defined communities of interest: FOOD, LIVING, FAMILY, WOMEN, PEOPLE & FASHION, NEWS, KNOWLEDGE, and BUSINESS/SPECIAL INTEREST.
