Gruner + Jahr extends its printing capacity in the U.S. by investing $38 million in its Brown Printing subsidiary / 50th anniversary celebration

Gruner + Jahr´s American offset printing subsidiary, the Brown Printing Company (BPC) is celebrating its 50th anniversary on July 13 in Waseca, Minnesota. In the lead-up to the anniversary, the G+J executive board has approved a $38 million investment in expanding the BPC plant in Woodstock, Illinois, to increase BPC´s capacity. The money will be used among other things to buy a two-web 64-page offset rotation printer, an adhesive binder, a gang-stitcher and a new building annex. The new production facilities are scheduled to take up operation in summer 2008.

G+J Spain to Publish Portuguese Edition of MUY INTERESANTE

SUPER INTERESSANTE, the Portuguese edition of G+J´s Spanish magazine MUY INTERESANTE, previously published by the Portuguese imprint Edimprensa under license from G+J Spain, will be published by Gruner + Jahr itself from July 2007, i.e. by the Portuguese imprint Allmedia, a G+J subsidiary. The content of MUY INTERESANTE and SUPER INTERESSANTE is closely modeled on the concept behind P.M.-MAGAZIN in Germany.

Gruner + Jahr Establishes Editorial G+J Televisa Joint Venture for the Latin American Market

Gruner + Jahr continues its international expansionist course by entering a joint venture with the Mexican magazine publisher Editorial Televisa, with effect from April 1, 2007. Editorial Televisa has already been publishing the Mexican editions of the popular-science magazine MUY INTERESANTE and the parenting magazine SER PADRES since 1986 under license. Editorial Televisa is part of Grupo Televisa, the largest media group in the Spanish-speaking countries. Beyond the magazine business, it also operates satellite services, TV channels and online portals.

Gruner + Jahr Acquires Majority Of Entertainment Media Verlag

Gruner + Jahr is acquiring the majority of shares in the Entertainment Media Verlag GmbH ; Co KG, Munich (EMV), retroactively to Jan 1, 2007. The selling parties are the imprint´s founder and managing partner Ulrich Scheele (15.05 percent) and his longtime partner, the Ebner Ulm publishing group (82.85 percent). This gives G+J a roughly 98-percent majority in EMV. Approximately two percent of the shares will continue to be owned by Ulrich Scheele, who will continue to run the imprint as its Managing Director. The purchase is subject to antitrust approval.

Christoph Weger Named New Managing Director of G+J New Media Ventures

Dr. Christoph Weger, 38, currently a Managing Director of the Financial Times Deutschland GmbH (FTD), will take on the management of G+J New Media Ventures GmbH, with effect from Mar 1, 2007. After that date, Christoph Rüth will manage the FTD as its sole Managing Director.

Gruner + Jahr Significantly Enhances Position in China

Gruner + Jahr has enhanced its position in China considerably by investing in BODA, a Chinese company based in Peking. The deal includes the merger of the Ray Li titles handled by BODA (four magazines) with the G+J/CLIP portfolio (four magazines). This step opens up the possibility for G+J to further develop the country´s second-biggest magazine portfolio by circulation and revenue.

G+J Grows in China, Launches FOCUS/XINZHIKE

Gruner + Jahr is expanding its activities in China by launching the popularscience magazine FOCUS/XINZHIKE. This brings the total number ofmagazines jointly published in China by G+J and the CLIP imprint, Peking,to four. FOCUS/XINZHIKE is based on the internationally successfulP.M./FOCUS/MUY INTERESANTE concept. FOCUS/XINZHIKE coversscientific, historical and technological topics and phenomena in easy-tounderstand, lavishly illustrated articles accompanied by lucid informational graphics. The Chinese name XINZHIKE loosely translates to "knowledge trendsetter" and is designed to appeal especially to a young Chinesereadership in the republic´s big cities. FOCUS/XINZHIKE made its debut inearly September with a 128-page issue in a print run of 50´000 copies,priced at €1 each. The magazine´s editor-in-chief is Jacky Zhang (37).

G+J International: Portfolio Adjustments After Reviews

Gruner + Jahr´s International Magazines Division has launched more than 30 magazines since January 2004. Now, following a cyclical review of publications, several titles will be taken off the market again. The magazines in question are GEOFOCUS in Russia, FENIKS in Poland, GALA in Spain, SOK and METRO in Greece, and three titles in the Adriatic region. The titles will be discontinued following the first day on sale of the next issue in each case.

Gruner + Jahr mourns the passing of John Jahr, co-founder and longstanding Executive Board member of the Hamburg-based printing and publishing company, Gruner + Jahr. Mr. Jahr died unexpectedly of heart failure last night in Hamburg. He was 72.

G+J´s International Magazines division is bundling Gruner + Jahr´s publishing businesses in Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Based in Warsaw, Mario Husten will manage the publishing activities in the region, including Poland and Russia, as President Central Eastern Europe as of February 2006. After establishing joint ventures in Greece and the Adriatic region and the launch of the international edition of "Geo," the new management structure creates the precondition for further growth, according to Gruner + Jahr. The goal is to enter new markets;#151;also through partnerships and acquisitions;#151;in addition to the expansion of the international concept and brand transfer.

Fabrice Bo;eacute; Appointed Member of Gruner + Jahr AG Executive Board

Fabrice Boé; (43) has been appointed as the sixth member of the Gruner + Jahr AG Executive Board by resolution of the G+J Supervisory Board. As Managing Director of Prisma Presse, he will represent G+J´s French subsidiary on the board of Europe´s largest magazine publisher - the first Frenchman ever to sit on the G+J Executive Board. He succeeds Axel Ganz (68) who resigned from the G+J Executive Board on Dec 31, 2005. In summer 2005 Axel Ganz and G+J formed a Paris-based joint venture for developing magazines, which he will now devote himself to building further.
