Gruner + Jahr’s Supervisory Board has appointed Julia Jäkel, previously a Member of the Executive Board and Director of G+J Germany, as the new Chief Executive Office of Gruner + Jahr with immediate effect. Oliver Radtke, previously Managing Director of G+J’s majority share in Dresdner Druck und Verlagshaus, as well as Stephan Schäfer, previously Publishing Director of G+J Publishing Group LIFE and Editor-in-Chief of BRIGITTE, will be joining Gruner + Jahr’s Executive Board. Radtke will serve as Chief Operating Officer and Schäfer, who will be stepping down from his editorial role as Editor-in-Chief and Publisher, will serve as Chief Product Officer.

Dr Bernd Buchholz, a member of the G+J Executive Board and President of G+J Germany, has been appointed the new CEO of Gruner + Jahr by the company's supervisory board with immediate effect. Buchholz succeeds Dr Bernd Kundrun, who today resigned as CEO with immediate effect due to differences regarding Gruner + Jahr's future strategy. The company and Kundrun are parting ways in mutual agreement. Bernd Buchholz's appointment to the Bertelsmann Executive Board will be decided on by the appropriate administrative bodies at a later point in time.

The photo award is a prize celebrating new professional talent and young professional photographers up to the age of 35 years. As part of its international strategy for expansion, Gruner + Jahr is testing a new title in the Spanish magazine market. YO COCINO ("I Cook") is published under the umbrella of successful women magazine MIA. Its content is modeled on existing G+J titles including BRIGITTE Cookie and ESSEN;TRINKEN FÜR jeden Tag. The pocket-sized YO COCINO will be published in a print run of 120,000 copies and will cost ;euro;1.50 at newsstands. If the test proves successful, the magazine will be published every two months

Total earnings (EBITA including special gains) rose to ;euro;406 million.During the same period, revenues declined to ;euro;2.8 billion, due to disposalsand the continuing decline in the ad business, especially in Germany. Netearnings amounted to ;euro;116 million (00/01: ;euro;40 million, reported under HGBGerman Commercial Code which restricts comparability), while cash flowmore than tripled to ;euro;385 million (00/01 pro forma: ;euro;114 million/HGB). TheReturn on Sales was 8.3 percent.

This is revealed by the current Online Coverages Monitor (ORM) 2002 II, which, similar to the Media Analysis for printed media, monitors and records reliable, coverage-related performance figures of 115 online advertising media. boerseonline.de takes top place in the financial sites segment with approximately 780,000 users weekly. Coverage winner in the women-specific Internet offerings is brigitte.de with roughly 400,000 users per week. handy.de, with 750,000 users per week, is first among sites dealing with cell phones and mobile telephony.
