Dr. Carsten Moser, a long-time G+Jpublisher, has just become the recipient of a great honor: Themembers of the Spanish Magazine Association ARI have named himthe "Magazine Publisher of the Year 2004" in Spain. The 37 publishingcompanies in the ARI award the prize annually to honor a person´slifetime achievement in publishing.
This makes Moser the first foreigner ever to receive this distinction.This is also the first time in the history of the prize that asalaried executive received it. All past winners have been ownersof a Spanish publishing company or magazine.
Mar;iacute;a Teresa Fernandé;z de la Vega, Spain´s Vice President, presentedthe publishing prize to Moser last Thursday at a ceremony held atthe Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In his acceptance speech,Moser underscored the important contribution that magazines maketo Spain´s political, cultural and social development: "I do notfear for the future of our medium as long as we manage to adapt ourcontent to reader demands, to differentiate between the interestingand the banal, and to uphold quality in words and pictures."
Torsten-Jörn Klein, member of the G+J executive board in charge ofInternational Magazines, commented: "Carsten Moser´s is a uniqueblend of journalistic competence and entrepreneurial spirit. Thisdistinction is a well-deserved reward for his nearly 20 years ofoutstanding work in the Spanish magazine business. G+J is veryfortunate and proud to have a publisher of his caliber in our ranks."
Carsten Moser was born in Germany and grew up in Spain, Peru andCanada. After earning his doctorate in business, he managed hisfather´s import/export business in Madrid while also working as acorrespondent for "Die Zeit" newspaper. In 1976 he published hisbook "Franco´s Heirs- Spain on its Way into the Present."
He went on to work for "Stern" magazine in Hamburg from 1978 to 1985,first as Deputy Director of the International Department, then asmanaging editor and finally as London correspondent. Moser has beenChief Executive of G+J´s subsidiary in Spain since 1985.He is married with two children.
