Hamburg, 05 February 2008 –
G+J International is venturing onto the Indian market and will partner with the Outlook Publishing Group (OPG) to publish GEO International under license. GEO India will make its debut in April 2008.
GEO India will be published in English based on the editorial concept of GEO International. GEO already has 16 editions being published worldwide and the Indian edition will be the 17th in its stable.
G+J's partner, Outlook Media Group, is India's second-biggest publisher, and is active in magazine publishing as well as in books, online and events. Other high-end magazines published under license by OMG include "Marie Claire" besides having marketing and distribution arrangements with "Businessweek" and "Newsweek". The group has also announced the launch of the Time Inc. publication, "People" magazine, in India
Dr. Torsten-Jörn Klein, G+J Executive Board Member and President G+J International, said: "We have entered the booming Indian market by adding another chapter to GEO's tale of success. I am delighted that we have found a partner in Outlook Publishing who has a similar understanding of journalistic quality as Gruner + Jahr. This won't be our last move in India, and GEO International's Editor-in-Chief Christiane Breustedt and director André; Möllersmann will continue to drive their unit's growth in 2008. G+J International continues on an expansionist course."
Maheshwer Peri, President & Publisher Outlook Media said: "We are excited to be tying up with G+J, Europe's largest magazine publisher. For us, GEO is a logical extension to tap the huge knowledge magazine space that the Indian market provides. With the launch of GEO in India, the knowledge and science magazine space which was occupied by imported international magazines like ´National Geographic' will be severely challenged. We are hopeful that GEO will attain similar success in the premium science space that it has in European markets."
