In January 2008, Gruner + Jahr had invited aspiring and professional photographers through the age of 35 years to submit their works for the first <a" onfocus="this.blur()" target="_new" href="http://www.guj.de/photoaward/en">G+J Photo Award. From an overwhelming total of 602 works submitted, consisting of several thousand photos, a top-notch judging panel selected 34 entries in ten categories for the final round of the award. The nominated works of photography encompass 160 photos, which are now on view in the "NOMINEES 2008" exhibition.
All nominated and winning works in the first G+J Photo Award competition are on display through April 27th at the G+J Pressehaus as part of Hamburg's 4th Triennial of Photography. Opening hours: Mon - Sun 10:00am - 6:00pm / Wed 10:00am - 8:00pm. Admission is free.
On April 26th, Gruner + Jahr will once again participate in the "Long Night of Museums" in Hamburg. Under the heading "Night of Nominees," G+J is devoting this year's event to up-and-coming photographers. The G+J Photo Award exhibition "Nominees 2008" will be rounded off with an extensive supporting program on the topic of the next generation of photographers.
The highlight of the evening program is a panel discussion under the heading "Photographer - A dream Job!?" in the G+J Auditorium. Here, experts will discuss the opportunities and risks aspiring professional photographers face. Participants: Gunnar Zink (Head of Editing/ Production Picture Press and G+J Photo Award judge), Florian Geiss (photographer), Rolf Nobel (professor of photography at the University of Applied Science in Hannover), Katja Werner (artbuyer for the Economia advertising agency and G+J Photo Award judge). The discussion will be moderated by Andreas Trampe (chief picture editor at STERN).
