Hamburg, 17 January 2006 –

Gruner + Jahr´s Italian subsidiary G+J/Mondadori has launched a new quiz and puzzle magazine: FOCUS GIOCHI made its debut on Italian newsstands on Jan 14 at a cover price of ;euro;1.90. Each month, true to its slogan "ginnastica per la mente" (literally "gymnastics for the mind"), FOCUS GIOCHI will present familiar brain-teasers (crossword puzzles and rebuses, logical conundrums, anagrams etc.) as well as newer types of puzzles from the Far East (Sudoku, Kakuno, Dezako etc.). The puzzles are embedded between editorial articles that explore other topics like curios and magic tricks. With a planned volume of about 80 pages, FOCUS GIOCHI is expected to sell 100,000 copies per issue.

Rolf Heinz, Managing Director G+J/Mondadori: "FOCUS GIOCHI is our second new magazine in two months, and follows the launch of GEO. Our aim is to present the readers of the new quiz magazine with a surprise on every page – which is why, unlike competing titles, FOCUS GIOCHI has plenty of pictures, is printed in 4c throughout, and offers a wide range of puzzle genres from all four corners of the earth."
