New headquarters for the publishing house, "Am Hannoverschen Bahnhof" at Lohsepark / move scheduled for 2021 / innovative publishing house building at an attractive site being planned
Hamburg, 8 December 2016 – The future head offices of Gruner + Jahr are to be located in Lohsepark, near the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg's HafenCity. Gruner + Jahr is having a new building erected for the publishing house there and is planning to move there in 2021. The address will then be "Am Hannoverschen Bahnhof". The company's head offices, located at "Am Baumwall", which will be more than 30 years old when the move takes place, are to be sold to the City of Hamburg. These decisions still need to be approved by municipal agencies and authorities.
Gruner + Jahr CEO Julia Jäkel: "Gruner + Jahr is staying in Hamburg. We like it here and think that the city offers an environment promoting good journalism. We are looking forward to our new home in HafenCity and the friendly neighbourhood featuring other media companies and cultural institutions. With its central location, an appropriate real property and involvement in one of the most exciting urban planning projects in Europe, this offers an ideal situation for us. Baumwall has conquered all of our hearts. But Gruner + Jahr is developing new magazines, new digital services and new businesses at an accelerating pace. Many of this work is being performed more on the basis of cooperation, working together above and beyond borders between editorial desks and department borderlines. The new building will radiate the warmth and creativity that Gruner + Jahr is all about."
The publishing house at "Am Baumwall" has been the company headquarters of Gruner + Jahr since 1990. Before this, the company was quartered in the so-called "Affenfelsen" on the "Außenalster" and before that spread out among several sites in Hamburg.
