Torsten-Jörn Klein (39) will be leavingBerliner Verlag (Berliner Zeitung, Berliner Kurier, BerlinOnline, Berlin.de, Berliner Zeitungsdruck) on Sep 1, 2003 and will pass the scepter to his current deputy and publishing director Ove Saffe (42). Klein joined Berliner Verlag in January 1998 as publishing director in charge of Sales, Marketing, and Ads and took over the management for the whole Berlin-based publishing group in January 2000.
Ove Saffe has been director of Berliner Verlag since August 2000. He joined the company from Spiegel Verlag, where he was Director Advertising and Sales. Prior to this, he had held several positions at Heinrich Bauer Verlag and Jahreszeiten Verlag after obtaining his degree as a bookseller and publisher.
Following several months of postgraduate management training in the U.S., Klein will take on a new position at Gruner + Jahr in 2004.
Gruner + Jahr Chairman ; CEO Bernd Kundrun says: "I thank Torsten-Jörn Klein for his outstanding work of the past few years and am delighted that Gruner + Jahr will be able to draw on his services for new management tasks in future as well. Thanks to timely countermeasures taken since October 2000, all of Berliner Verlag's titles are in the black despite the crisis in advertising. But Klein is not only handing over the publishing company in excellent economic condition. "Berliner Zeitung" in particular has a glowing journalistic reputation well beyond the German capital, without having lost touch with the local reality, a very important attribute in Berlin. I wish Ove Saffe the best of luck and success in his new position. He knows Berlin's employees and market like few others and is thus the perfect person for the job."/htdocs/bilder/presse/nachrichten/meld_030807_3_ENG.jpg/htdocs/downloads/presse/Klein_Dr_Torsten_Joern_Juli03.zipDr. Torsten-Jörn Klein
