Motor Presse Stuttgart invests in TV and Digital business

- 1 January 2014 will see Motor Presse Stuttgart acquire, Germany's largest marketplace for new and used campers and caravans.
- Likewise as of 1 January 2014, Motor Presse Stuttgart will hold a 51% majority stake in the television joint-venture Motor Presse TV.
- Motor Presse Polen (MPP) is to buy, one of the country's leading automobile Web sites, thereby strengthening its automobile business and accelerating digital growth.

Stuttgart, 11 November 2013 – First steps towards a long-term growth strategy currently involve Motor Presse Stuttgart investing in three larger acquisitions in Germany and Poland. The Stuttgart-based media company is therefore acquiring the transaction Web site as well as obtaining a majority holding in the television company Motor Presse TV. In Poland, Motor Presse is developing a leading position in the automobile market by acquiring the content-based Web site

"These acquisitions have the goal of accelerating the digital transformation of Motor Presse Stuttgart in Germany and abroad and driving the development of strong print-digital brands", is how Dr. Volker Breid, Managing Director at Motor Presse Stuttgart, describes the objectives behind these investments, which also involve supplementing classic core business to include a strong Business-to-Business component. This increased involvement in the digital TV business also serves towards further reducing dependence on the classic publishing business. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price for the respective acquisitions.

As of 1 January 2014, Motor Presse Stuttgart will acquire in full, Germany's largest marketplace for new and used caravans and campers. This portal is aligned towards commercial traders as well as private buyers and vendors. offers more than 15,000 new and used vehicles and generates more than three million hits with around 40 million page impressions a year.

Likewise with effect as of 1 January 2014, Motor Presse Stuttgart will be acquiring from TV entrepreneur Jörg Schütter 41 per cent of shares in the Motor Presse TV company giving it a 51% majority stake in the joint-venture established in 2009. Jörg Schütte will retain a 49% holding in Motor Presse TV and will manage the company alongside Norbert Lehmann, Chief Financial Officer at Motor Presse Stuttgart. On the one hand, Motor Presse TV operates the pay TV auto motor und sport Channel which reaches around 900,000 subscriber households in German-language cable and IP TV networks. A HD version of the channel has also been on air since 2011. On the other hand, the auto motor und sport Channel also broadcasts in Eastern Europe and the Benelux states, sometimes in local language versions, targeting more than 1.5 million subscriber households in these countries. The auto motor und sport Channel also sells programme licenses to China and Russia.

Motor Presse TV operates as a production platform for Motor Presse Stuttgart and produces moving image content for all of its digital activities including automobile Web sites, e-magazines and Apps. Furthermore, Motor Presse TV also acts as a contract producer for other television broadcasters. One current example involves a production contract for the "Tacho" automobile magazine on SRF, the Swiss public broadcaster. This 30-minute magazine has aired on SRF 2 at 7.25 p.m. every Sunday since late September and is very successful.

By acquiring a majority holding in Motor Presse TV, Motor Presse Stuttgart also availed of an option agreed within the framework of its long-term moving image strategy. "Under Jörg Schütte's operative management, the past few years have seen Motor Presse TV develop very successfully in terms of speed and profitability", explains Motor Presse Managing Director Breid. "I look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with Jörg Schütte." Acquisition of this majority holding by Motor Presse Stuttgart is subject to approval by the media supervisory authorities.

Motor Presse Polen (MPP) is expanding its digital business and acquiring the content-based Web site ( from the Allegro Group. This automobile portal currently registers two million hits with eight million page impressions per month making it one of the leading automobile Web sites on the Polish market. "Acquisition of is a key strategic step for us in order to strengthen our automobile division in Poland and accelerate its digital growth", explains Henry Allgaier who is also responsible for Poland in his capacity as Managing Director at Motor Presse International. was established by Automotive Internet Services S.A. in 2000 and acquired by the Allegro Group in 2010. The Web site currently employs 25 people and is based in Wroclaw which is also home to Motor Presse Polen. The Web site offers news, photo galleries and videos, tests and product ratings, marketplaces for new and used vehicles, tyres and wheel rims as well as accessories and financial services. The automobile configurator represents an essential tool of the Web site. Its heartpiece is an extensive, detailed and daily updated data base which enables users to search specifically for vehicles of their choice and establish direct contact with the vendor of the respective model via a Lead Management System.
