Hamburg, 23 February 2010 –
Peter Pelinka, the renowned journalist, experienced editor and former editor-in-chief of FORMAT, is taking the editorial helm at NEWS, Austria's biggest news magazine. Pelinka will be supported by deputy chief editors Corinna Milborn and Silvia Meister.
Pelinka already worked successfully with Corinna Milborn, a political journalist and "Club2" moderator, on FORMAT. They will both set new priorities and a new tone in the first half of the issue, especially regarding domestic politics, business, and features.
In addition to her role as managing editor of the personality magazine FIRST, Silvia Meister has also served as head of the People & Style department and will be responsible for the entertainment section of NEWS.
The former editor-in-chief Atha Athanasiadis leaves the company on good terms. Since his return to Verlagsgruppe NEWS in 2006, Athanasiadis very successfully expanded Austria's biggest weekly magazine "TV Media," turning it into the country's most-read newsstand magazine with close to 1 million readers (MA 08/09). Then he took overall responsibility for Austria's biggest news magazine NEWS, restructuring and reorganizing it to reflect the challenges of the market. NEWS has also increased its reach by 7.3% to 835,000 readers, according to MA 08/09.
"The new leadership sends a clear signal in support of quality journalism. Peter Pelinka and Corinna Milborn are guarantors of innovative magazine journalism. Silvia Meister stands for well-crafted, finely accented entertainment. We thank Atha Athanasiadis for his outstanding efforts within the publishing group. During his editorship of NEWS the dovetailing of the magazine and the online portal news.at were intensively and successfully improved. We wish him well in his future endeavors, and the new management team all the best," said Oliver Voigt, publisher and CEO of Verlagsgruppe News.
