These new freedoms can fortify a democratic society; but they can also pose threats to it. One such threat has arrived in the form of fake, invented or sensationalist news: a phenomenon that has recently become all too common on social media.


Gruner + Jahr moves to Hamburg's HafenCity

The future head offices of Gruner + Jahr are to be located in Lohsepark, near the Deichtorhallen in Hamburg's HafenCity. Gruner + Jahr is having a new building erected for the publishing house there and is planning to move there in 2021. The address will then be "Am Hannoverschen Bahnhof".


G+J International Media Sales (G+J i|MS) takes over sales representation for Iberia and Aer Lingus Media

Since October 2016, the G+J i|MS sales offices in Switzerland, Italy, Germany and France represent the multimedia portfolio of the Spanish Iberia Airline with its EXCELENTE and RONDA magazines. Starting in January 2017 G+J i|MS will also represent the Aer Lingus media portfolio with CARA magazine. G+J i|MS already represents British Airways media for Cedar, a London based content agency.


G+J Digital Ventures and Ringier Digital Ventures invest in DIY platform Makerist

G+J Digital Ventures (www.gujdv.com) and Ringier Digital Ventures are investing in the DIY startup Makerist (www.makerist.de). In addition to the two new investors, existing investors Hightech-Gründerfonds (High-Tech Founder Fund, HTGF) and OZ Verlag are also participating in the Series B financing round of 5 million euros.

Gruner + Jahr joins Google DNI, develops new technology for news app

Medienfabrik to transfer to Gruner + Jahr / Hamburg Publishing House establishes Germany's largest Content Communication Service Provider

On January 1st 2016, the communications agency Medienfabrik will be transferring from Arvato to Gruner + Jahr – both 100 percent subsidiaries of the international media company Bertelsmann. Gruner + Jahr will thus be setting up Germany's largest content communication service provider.

Gruner + Jahr: 2014 business developments confirm transformation course

The results of Gruner + Jahr in financial year 2014 fully confirmed the company's transformation course. While business developments in 2014 were largely stable adjusted for portfolio effects, G+J generated an Ebitda return on investment of 9.5% – on par with the previous year (2013: 9.6%).
